2nd XI Cricket

This year the weather has been kinder, enabling us to play 7 of out 11 fixtures Of these, we won and drew on one occasion and lost-the remainder. On paper, it may not have seemed to, be agood reason-, but,- on reflection the team has been successful in fulfilling its two Major aims. The first of which,.- is to provide some kind of experience for the younger players and hopefully we have "blooded" a few 5th and L6th formers (the bulk of the side) for next year's Season in the 1st XI. Secondly, and more important, is, to give the less able members a chance, and a bit of light relief to the public examination candidates. Within the team there has been a good sporting atmosphere, and everyone has generally played their part.

Thanks must go to Mr Marsh and Mr Buck for their patience in coaching, and Mr Robertson for arranging the fixtures.

The very wet summer caused the cancellation of our first 3 fixtures and interfered with practice. We then lost our next two matches within a week but as the weather improved so did our performance.

We ended the season on a winning streak drawing very favourably with Kent College and decisively defeating Sir Roger Manwoods and Astor. Had we played at the beginning of the season as we did at the end we would have won all our matches. Green, the captain, sets a good example and is a competent wicket keeper. Hill, Jackson and Walsh made up a hostile attack and one can hope for lots of runs in the future from Forsythe, Cassidy, Clark (who had one 50 this season), Hill and Jackson. The side fielded well and it was pleasing to see their improvement, though it is short of spin bowling.
