However, our boys played sportingly and enthusiastically, and gained some solid victories. Where they were outplayed - Chatham House had an especially strong side this year - they never gave up. With a bit of hitting practice on grass, they will, do well higher up the school. Gunn was a solid defender, McConchie showed promise in mid-field, and Richardson, the captain, was the best of some lively forwards, and set a very good example to his team.

U14 HOCKEY
Cartain: P KELLY, WELLINGTON

Having never played on grass before, our first practice was abissmal but we slowly improved. Our first game being cancelled gave us more time to practice. Our first match was against Kent College where we surprisingly won by 2-1, (at half time it was 0-0). Our second match was against Dover College, where we had more confidence because of our previous win, we won again, 8-0. Our next match was our hardest, Chatham House, we lost 4-0 where we gave up after the first goal was scored against us, along with two injuries, which changed our positions around. Our fourth and final match was against Manwoods, only winning when 'We had most of the ball. Our tournament and two other fixtures were cancelled because of bad weather. The team was C Davies, D Cottrell, S Cassidy, R Moon, M Jackson, R Trebble, M Watkins, A Marsh, L Green, R Lancaster and P Kelly, Reserves were B Clarke and M Walsh.

U13 XI

For the first time we produced an U13 team this year. They played twice, defeating Betteshanger 5-0 and reaching the semi-final of the Brockhill Tornament losing to Sutton Valence on penalty corners.

The entire year took part in the Rose Award Scheme and the benefits of this and proper coaching is clearly going to pay off. The following, awards were gained:

      5 Rose 1
      4 Rose 4
      3 Rose 25
      1 Rose 25
      1 Rose 4

The junior house match was a closely fought contest, and the level of skill displayed was, again, very encouraging; Kitchener rather upset the 'pundits' by winning 2-1.
