Not everyone, even their colleagues, in the upper school get on with the prefects, though this is not publicised to a great extent, and they are members of the same year group and have known each other for seven years. Becoming a prefect can change one's character and personality and turn other people against you because of things you have to do or want to do.
The system could probably be bettered if the division between a prefect and an ordinary sixth former was narrowed, meaning a few of the privileges were dropped such as, two white stripes, special ties and raincoats, which falsely boost their egos.
1 think the prefect system in a day school is worthwhile as a lot less has to be considered and undertaken than with someone belonging to the prefect system in a boarding school, which appears to be a bad thing,. to me at least but I am the punished not the punisher.
