This was the second year of our existence, and we were joined by the new young blood of Vernon Breese on piano. We had -learnt a lot from our first year as a group, and now knew our capabilities and built on these. We came to rely less on staff, and predued much more of our own material.
'The Band performed at various functions including the Military Ball, on the beach at Dover for the Dover Lifeguards, a,- Dover College's Summer Ball, and our Farewell Concert on Grand Day- We would to thank Mr Ellender for his help in managing our affairs and helping to start the ball rolling.
We hope we have paved the way for the feature, for we have shown although it is not easy to run a group in school, it can be done. The Boys have shown us there is a need for a school rock band and with the amount of musical awareness in the school, we only hope new groups are to follow. One must consider the difficulties and pressures of exams and other commitments and at the same time adopt a positive and progressive attitude as we have tried to do. As we take our curtain calls, we thank you all for your encouragement and hope we have given satisfactory results, and will join us in wishing the school bands of the future the best of luck. Rock On!
The Trampline Club enjoyed a pleasant and successful season with no shortage of participants in the lower age groups but the more senior members of the school were not quite so evident.
In the Kent Schools Championship our Under 14 team of Nick Bryan, Andrew Clark, Russell Lancaster and Anthony Banks won the Team event with the latter being
selected to represent Kent in the London and South East England Championships where he did very well to finish in fifth place. In the Under 16 section of the Kent Championships Guy Maile was placed 6th and Carl McConchie 7th, while in the Under 19's Chris Maile was easy winner, lie also was selected for Kent and gained a very creditable third place in the London and South East England Schools Competition.
The County embarked on a new venture this year - The Kent Novices Championship a novice being defined as anybody who bad not taken part in the actual Kent Championships. The school entered a team in the Under 14 section - Nigel Brenchley, Ian Wade and Gary, Mumford - and were placed second. Gary Mumford had a very successful day emerging as the overall winner with Ian Wade in 4th place.
Finally my thanks to all- members of the club who worked so hard and especially to Chris Maile for his valuable assistance with the coaching of the younger boys.
