Day 5

"Reveille O710 for breakfast 0700. Later in the day we experienced a great "ego-boost:", watching many Germans cowering away in fear and horror at us riding towards the wall atop cheiftains. Arrived; inspected border, insulted guards and left. That afternoon we went on the Spree in four converted yoghurt cartons (assault, craft), It was 'raining very hard', so everyone decided to 'hang it all' and get soaked in a water fight. Tea at five was livened up no end when Vernon Williams was locked out of the room.

Day 6

"Up at 6.40 am., sigh and saw West Berlin. We were given a standard Spiel from Lt Dunkley, who pointed out all the interesting sights. Then we visited East Berlin and saw all the cardboard cars and other dismal sights, Saw extremely interesting Russian propaganda film with the Russians claiming all the credit for winning World War 2 (in German). Had a good laugh at the goose stepping of the guards at the memorial of the unknown soldier. Had lunch and then were shown around the 40th Armor Corp U.S. Army, by a lootenant, yes siree! Got back for 5.25 p.m. tea and then we had the evening to ourselves."

Day 7

"Free day everyone did their own thing. R.G. & M.V. Williams decided to walk into town. By the time they got there, it was time to turn back, so they went for a three hour walk just for the exercise!".

Day 8

"Free Day. After supper, those who could afford it, went to see "Annie Hall", and those who couldn't didn't.

Day 9

"Got up 0530, and both rooms were ready for handing over at 0600, but had to wait until 0630, then handed over! After breakfast we travelled to Charlottenburg-station. Train (British) left 40 minutes late At 1030, it was dinner time, and so those without ESP went to the dining car for a couple of spoonfuls of soup, old boots-type lamb chop, mankey vegetables, unfresh fruit and a few sips of coffee. Arrival in Hannover was greeted by very hot weather (the first of the trip) with all of us appropriately attired in heavy suits. After a hearty supper (to make up for lunch) we all went out for the evening, and a good time was had by all,"

Day 10

"Boring morning. A few went into town to get their last minute presents. After lunch we all went to "Die Blaner See" (the blue lake if you don't know your German) which was green and a bit on the cold side. Various people hired a couple of paddle boats between them. Bob Keeley ended up in the water having lost his glasses in 20 ft of water. So the boat attendant and his attendant were summoned. Then out came the sub-aqua kit, much to Capt Atkins interest. The glasses were found and returned. After supper we present Capt Atkins, with a bottle of brandy. Then we all went to bed early in preparation for our awakening at an indecent hour the next mornings

Day 11

Wednesday the 26th. The journey back home was very dull. Arrived eventually at Dover Marine from where we dispersed to our various homes.
