GYM SQUAD

The squad was made up of the following members

P SOLLY (Capt), C MAILE, M FENN, L WILBY, A KEEFE, C McCONCHIE, G MAILE, TOMPKINS, A BANKS, N BRYAN, R LANCASTER, J GRANT, G MUMFORD, I WADE, J REYNOLDS, A MASON, M RICHARDS.

The display on Grand Day went off well with no real catastrophes and thanks to a new design for the flaming hoop we actually managed some flames this year; what is more Chris Maile got through it unscathed and Paul Solly performed an excellent double somersault.

My thanks to all those who practised so hard to make the display a success, and last but not least to the boys of the Third Form who set out, and cleared away the apparatus.

SHOOTING '77/78

Despite losing five of the school team of eight at the beginning of last season, the new-look school team did suprisingly well. Besides the normal 22 competitions entered (British Schools, Territorial Army, Dover & Folkestone League) about seven members shot in the Jack Deal competition with Paul Gibson winning a trophy for his class. There were several shoulder to shoulder matches against the Dover Rifle Club and the Dover Police, with Paul Gibson, Vernon Williams and myself getting the highest scores.

Last year also saw the start of the Jubilee Cup competition, (the cup being presented to the school by the Dover Rifle Club) the receiver of the cup being the person who achieves the highest aggregate after five pairs of cards. Another trophy to Paul Gibson, The handicap shoot was won by Mike Windle with a winning score of 98.96.

The end of the Lent Term saw the match against the masters, which, need 1 say, the boys won. However, I think it might be a bit closer this year because the opposition have gone into "secret" midweek training!
