Four men, whom we shall call Frank, Bob, Pete and Henry were playing happy families one evening, As a result of a quarrel during the course of the game, one of these men shot and killed another. From the facts given below, see if you can determine who the murderer and his victim were.

Frank will not expose his brothers guilt. Henry had been released from ail on the-day of the murder, after having served a three day sentence for dangerous driving, Frank had driven Pete, who in all honesty was a bit of a twit, to the card game at Bob's house, Henry had known Bob for only five days before the murder. Pete had met FraTik's father only once. The host is about to give evidence against the murderer, whom he dislikes. The murdered man had eaten dinner on the previous night with one of the men who did not get on with Bob customarily.

THE MARINERS

There are three ships, the Albatross,-.the-Americus, and the Hispaniola, on the sea. sailing for the ports of Liverpool, New York and Cherbourg, but not necessarily in that order. They were commanded by Captains Brine, Tarr and Salt.

A few months ago Captain Tarr was the guest of Captain Brine on the Albatross.
The Hispaniola hit a derelict on her last crossing and as a result, for seven weeks previous to the present trip, was in dry dock for repairs.
The Albatross has just passed the Americus in mid ocean and shipped a stowaway back by the Americus .
Mrs. Salt who usually travels with her husband, was yesterday discharged from hospital where she was treated for a week for a severe attack of the ulcers in- the stomach, This unfortunate condition victimised her while she was three days from land and necessitated her immediate removal to the hospital when the ship docked.
The Captain of the Americus preparing a report for his owners, Carter and Smith Ltd of Liverpool, which he will have to deliver to their offices as soon as the ship docks.

What ship does Captain Tarr command and to what port is it bound?
