EDITORIAL
In the past, editors of the Yorkist have been the responsibility (chore?) of certain members of staff. This state of affairs was never totally accepted by the masters involved who argued that without direct involvement by the boys the school magazine was in fact a staff magazine and by in fact by continueing almost solely produce the magazine they were in fact doing the school a disservice.
This years addition however is an attempt to remedy the situation. Production was entailed to Sixth Form Editorial Committee (again a minority but at least a representative one). Thus any criticism is in fact self-criticism - we had (and have) the opportunity to produce something worthwhile for ourselves. he failure to grasp this opportunity amounts to criminal negligence.
This magazine can genuinely claim to represent the literary standard of the school; if this standard falls below your approval then it is you who must improve it, instead of standing on the touchline mumbling negative criticism.
So much for the content as to the printing, this Yorkist again heralds an historically pioneering event. For the first time the boys alone operated the £5 000 printing press and whilst we apologise for any, errors putting them down to chronic inexperience,at least we have made a start -in the right direction and hopefully next year will see a steady improvement.
This editorial would not be complete without thanking Mr. Acheson and Mr. Hancock (who never wholly deserted us) for their valuable advice and occasional assistance.
