DAMS run Cadillacs too
3rd December

As part of Cadillac's "European Press Tour", the announcement has been made that DAMS will switch to running two Cadillac chassis alongside the 'factory' effort. Not all four chassis will race together for the full season, with the 'factory' cars likely to enter Daytona, Sebring, Le Mans and the Petit Le Mans. The DAMS cars will enter these too (except Daytona, as two of the four cars have non-compliant roll bars), as well as several races both in Europe and the U.S. The Sports Racing World Cup is to be run to the same regulations as Daytona, so some swapping around of chassis is likely when DAMS runs any SRWC or Grand-Am races, with any ALMS races being with the 'loophole' roll bar chassis.

Early in the programme, it had been rumoured that Solution F would make the logical step up from its existing (ageing) Riley & Scott chassis. Although this is still possible on a customer basis, any possibility of them being the 'official' European base have now disappeared.

The drivers of one of the DAMS cars will be regulars Jean-Marc Gounon and Eric Bernard. During '99, Bernard raced the DAMS Lola as well as a Panoz LMP-1 Roadster S and with a bigger DAMS showing planned for the ALMS in 2000, it seems unlikely that his Panoz drive will continue.

Drivers for the second DAMS chassis will be from Andy Wallace, Max Angelelli, Wayne Taylor and the now thankfully recovered Eric van der Poele, with a different line up depending on the venue and other commitments.
